El Garbi, Terra Alta

The Designation of Origin DO Terra Alta is located in Catalonia’s most southern, inland area. Terra Alta region has been closely linked to wine production for almost 1000 years.    The climate of Terra Alta differs from the rest of Catalonia, with more heat in the summer, cooled however by strong winds and cold nights, and notably little rainfall.

Like its neighbour Priorat, Terra Alta's isolated position, rendered it a much forgotten region of several generations.  However perception is changing fast due to the extraordinary wines coming from the region, largely from indigenous grape varieties and specifically White Grenache, that’s become the stand out varietal of Terra Alta.

We produced only 500l of the 2016 vintage of El Garbi, as we experiment in this extraordinary region.  Hand-picked grapes, picked at optimum ripeness were fermented in stainless steel tanks with a lot of solid content before moving to 100% new 'Boutes' 500l barrel ageing process starts with 100l heavy lees, stirring every five days to maximise the textural element of the wine.

The wine will be bottled mid May by hand.
